It was expected to be tough sledding at UNI and Drake, but SIU (8-6) didn’t win a set this past weekend on the road. On Friday against the Panthers, Annabelle Sulish led the Salukis with only seven kills and setters Ema Stermenska and Anna Jaworski had 12 and 10 assists, respectively. SIU led this one for bits and spurts, but UNI dominated, going on several extended runs to put this one away fairly quickly. The Panthers hit .327 in this one, which would be incredible for a baseball player, so it was even more impressive on the volleyball floor. The Bulldogs offered a similar challenge on Saturday, with Sulish leading the way again with just eight kills. The Salukis hit only .085 in both games, which isn’t a recipe for success at all. Stermenska had 15 assists while Jaworski added 11. The Dawgs didn’t attain more than 21 points in a set. They will hope to get back on the right track this weekend as they’ll return to Davies and face Bradley on Friday, Oct. 4 at 6pm and Illinois State on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3 pm.
